Marching Band Prop Vinyl
Project Objective
The primary objective of this project was to design large vinyl props for the Brookville Marching Band, to be utilized during the 2024 fall season. The props serve as visual representations of the three movements of the field show, which explores the artistic process through the lens of Jean-Michel Basquiat's influential style.
Design Elements
Movement I: Learning the Ropes
Concept: Illustrates the foundational stage of art, focusing on sketching.
Design: Comprises numerous seemingly random lines to form the image of a face, symbolizing the chaotic yet essential nature of artistic development.
Movement II: Fit the Mold
Concept: Represents the refinement of the artistic process through the addition of paint.
Design: Enhances the clarity and presentation of the initial sketch, embodying the transition from raw ideas to more polished expressions.
Movement III: Break the Rules
Concept: Reflects Basquiat's defiance of conventional art norms by incorporating spray paint techniques.
Design: Mimics a spray paint aesthetic, infusing the final image with personality and distinctiveness, signifying the artist's assertion of individuality.
Conclusion
The designs created for the Brookville Marching Band's props not only enrich the visual narrative of the field show but also pay homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat's innovative approach to art. Each movement is carefully crafted to encapsulate significant stages in the artistic journey, inviting both performers and audiences to engage with the creative process in a meaningful way. These illustrations stand as a testament to the intersection of art and performance, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of the marching band’s presentation.
Drill Design
Objective
The drill for the Brookville High School marching band for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons represents a comprehensive artistic endeavor. This project aimed to create an engaging visual and auditory experience for both performers and audiences.
Storytelling Through Drill Design
Each show is meticulously crafted to convey a narrative, with designs that enhance the musicians' performances on the field. The movements are not merely choreographed; they are intricately aligned with the music, striving to elevate the overall presentation. By integrating the visual elements with the musical score, the drill serves to highlight the musical themes and motifs.
Structure and Complexity
The complexity of the project is evident in the over 60 sets designed for each show. These sets are strategically arranged to ensure that the ensemble performs seamlessly, offering both challenge and artistry. The careful construction of each movement reflects a commitment to excellence and creativity.
Conclusion
In summary, the drill for the Brookville High School marching band is a significant undertaking that combines storytelling, music, and choreography. The result is a cohesive and dynamic performance that engages audiences and showcases the talent of the ensemble. This project not only emphasizes the importance of artistic expression in marching band performances but also sets a standard for future seasons.
